The story begins in the flooded center. The fjord’s water has penetrated the corridors, into the commercial heart, where it interrupts the advertising stream of the advertising screens and replaces it with recordings from the bottom of the fjord. A group of local children, a group of elderly people, and four singing dream characters – The Leaping Salmon, the Dreaming Glove, the Center’s Beating Heart and the Swaying Eel Grass – slowly move through the changed world and crawl onto a small piece of land. Together – but across generations, experiences and times – the group of wet bodies must try to find a foothold.
Randers’ past, region and history live in them. And around them lies the substantial center, a meeting place filled with the joy of consumption, pastime and cohesion. But now the suffering fjord is suddenly acutely present, and oxygen is scarce. The bottom of the fjord is a layer of deadly white body sheet, and the four characters must ask themselves what dreams it is possible to dream about the future of nature and humanity? Confronted with the fjord’s oxygen depletion, the different bodies must act, narrate, consume and interpret the world anew. For how do you survive in the present, together, under vastly different conditions?
