Motherboard’s first opera My whole existence was like a glass of milk between my hands was premiered at Statens Museum for Kunst, as a part of the closing event program at CPH:DOX festival. The performance consisted of a live opera performance for soprano and percussion and 500 filled milk glasses placed on the floor in small islands, as well as a video and light installation in the adjacent hallways. The overall experience for the audience was a circular walk around the soprano, Katinka Fogh Vindelev’s dark interior in the form of video works and the exterior, staged as a repetitive live performance taking place in bright daylight. The text of the work was excerpts from the poem Midt i Mørket by the Iranian author Forugh Farrokhzad, translated by the resident Iranian poet Shadi Angelina Bazeghi. A poetry that puts into words an enlarged moment, on the edge between waking up and being asleep.
With the work, Motherboard wanted to initiate their exploration of the usual way of producing opera by working collectively and insisting on the experiment.
The audience did not sit in rows in front of a stage, as in a traditional opera performance. The intention was that the audience could get very close to the performer and percussionist and go and come as they wished, thereby exploring the elements at their own pace.
Motherboard consists of Creative directors Signe Lykke (composer) & Katinka Fogh Vindelev (soprano) Filmmakers Frigge Fri & Cille Hannibal, Choreographer Tim Matiakis & Producer Christine Walther Sørensen.
