Motherboard is a community, a laboratory that radically rethinks opera. Motherboard is a group of artists, each representing a field within the opera’s cross-artistic core disciplines. Motherboard is opera for the 21st century.
It all started when Katinka Fogh Vindelev commissioned a new work from Signe Lykke in the beginning of 2020. They had both completed major opera productions and did not know each other very well, but in the conversations about music, art, body and sound – all based on the controversial and textual universe of the iconic Iranian author Forugh Farrokhzad – they discovered, they shared an ambition to renew and transform opera as an art form. To experiment, to break free from old hierarchies and ultimately make art that one can relate to. They knew it required a very special team wanting this very dialogue-based form of work, and therefore invited choreographer Tim Matiakis , the filmmakers Cille Hannibal and Frigge Fri and set designer Karin Gille into the collective. Everyone has chosen each other with a vision of the ultimate co-creation.
