Donnimaar

During Fall 2021, I recorded, arranged, mixed and produced my dear friend artist Marie Kølbæk Iversen’s debut album. And Taaaa Daaa today we have the VINYL RELEASE of “Donnimaar. Vredens Børn” on the occasion of Marie’s performance at "TED Talks on Acid”—an innovative live event format developed by the artist collective @New Red Order and forming part of their exhibition "One if by Land, Two if by Sea" at @kunsthalcharlottenborg

"Donnimaar. Vredens Børn" is a music and visual arts project by Marie Kølbæk Iversen revolving around the magic songs of her great-great-great-great-grandparents, who in 1873 were the ethnographic subjects of Danish folklore collector Evald Tang Kristensen when he visited their house on Ørre Hede in Western Jutland. The album title combines the main character Daughter Donnimaar from the song "Æ Fåwanleng" ('the transformation') with the title of the novel "Vredens Børn" ('children of wrath') written in 1904 by Jutlandic writer Jeppe Aakjær.
The album's five songs relate to a different cultural tradition than the Protestant Christian and national romantic context of their collection: They are largely (and in places explicitly) proto-feminist, apocalyptic, anti-Christian, anti-materialist, and anti-Danish.

MoBC Statement:
“Why release music on cassette tape in 2020? At a time when music releases have lost their value (in a capitalist sense), and where writers and poets still have the book, we musicians have become homeless. Therefore - buy a cassette (incl. Download code) - it is small - does not take up much space in the world, and - there you go - you can even put it in your pocket! ”
